Nomad Go Where

About Nomad Go Where

How we score cities, where the numbers come from and who is behind the guide.

What Nomad Go Where is

Nomad Go Where is a guide to the best places in Southeast Asia and beyond to live and work remotely for a month or more. Every city is scored on the same six measures and comes with a plain-English write-up covering where nomads stay, where to work, how to get around, the best and worst times to visit, and the honest downsides.

How the Nomad Score is calculated

Each city gets a score out of 100, built from six weighted measures:

  • Monthly budget (25%): what one person spends living comfortably, with a furnished one-bed or studio on a monthly deal in a nomad area, a coworking membership, a mix of eating out and cooking, local transport and a phone plan. Cheaper scores higher, from US$1,000 a month (full marks) to US$3,000 and above (none).
  • Internet (20%): the typical download speed on home fibre and in coworking spaces, on a log scale from 10 to 300 Mbps, because the jump from 10 to 50 Mbps matters far more than from 200 to 300.
  • Nomad community (20%): the size of the remote-worker scene, from Small to Huge.
  • Safety (15%): how safe the city feels for foreigners, on a scale of 1 to 5.
  • English (10%): how easily you can get by in English.
  • Climate (10%): how close the annual average temperature is to a comfortable 24°C.

Visa rules are listed on every city page but kept out of the score, because they depend on your passport.

Where the figures come from

Costs, rents and coworking prices are estimates built from recent rental listings, coworking price lists, cost-of-living databases and nomad budget breakdowns, converted to US dollars. Internet speeds are anchored on national fixed-broadband medians and adjusted for each city. Coworking spaces are checked to be operating, and visa summaries are checked against official and recent sources. Every city shows the date it was last checked.

They are typical figures, not quotes. Prices change, spaces close and visa rules move quickly, so always confirm what matters to you with the official source before you book.
