Nomad Go Where

Manila (Makati)

Makati is the Philippines' business heart: walkable Legazpi and Salcedo villages, lively Poblacion bars, plenty of coworking and English everywhere.
Manila (Makati)

Living and working here

Makati is the sensible base for anyone who needs Manila. It is the country's financial district, and its planned core of Ayala Avenue, Legazpi Village and Salcedo Village is far greener, safer and more walkable than most of the metro. English is spoken by almost everyone, which makes business, admin and dating straightforward. It suits nomads working with Philippine teams, start-up founders and those who like a city with a real nightlife.

Condos in Legazpi and Salcedo villages are popular for their parks and weekend markets, while Poblacion, on the other side of Makati Avenue, packs in the bars, restaurants and hostels and is noisier as a result. Rockwell and nearby BGC in Taguig are the polished, pricier options. Furnished studios and one-beds generally run PHP 35,000–65,000 a month. Acceler8 has several branches in Salcedo and Legazpi with unlimited monthly access at about PHP 8,450, PenBrothers and KMC Solutions offer similar membership options, and Common Ground in Rockwell quotes PHP 9,000 for a hot desk.

The Philippines has climbed the fixed-broadband rankings, with a national median of around 114 Mbps in August 2026, and Makati towers typically have solid fibre with generators for the occasional outage. Traffic is the defining problem: use Grab, walk the elevated walkways or take the train and avoid crossing the city at rush hour. December to April is the most comfortable time; the wet season from June to October brings typhoons and flooding. Budget about USD 1,600 a month.

Outside the Makati and BGC bubble, Manila is congested, polluted and hard to navigate on foot, and many nomads rarely leave the district. Petty theft happens, particularly in crowded places and on public transport. Air quality and noise can be wearing, and typhoon season can cause flooding. The visa situation is also confusing, as the long-promised digital nomad visa is still not open.
